How We Build Walls That Last

A retaining wall is only as good as its foundation and drainage. Skip those steps and the wall will fail, no matter how nice it looks. Here is how we make sure your wall stands strong:

Site Assessment and Design

We start by looking at your property. How steep is the slope? What kind of soil are we dealing with? Where does water go when it rains? These factors determine the type of wall you need and how we build it. For taller walls or heavy loads, we bring in an engineer to design a wall that meets structural requirements and local codes.

Excavation and Foundation

We dig below the frost line to prevent shifting and heaving. A solid foundation is critical. We compact the base, add gravel for drainage, and ensure everything is level before we start building. Shortcuts here mean problems later, so we do not skip this step.

Wall Construction

Depending on the design, we pour concrete, lay blocks, or build with stone and mortar. Every course is checked for level and alignment. We add reinforcement where needed to handle soil pressure and prevent cracking. For our Apex concrete projects, we use materials and methods proven to withstand local weather and soil conditions.

Drainage and Backfill

Water pressure is the biggest threat to retaining walls. We install drainage systems behind the wall to channel water away. Weep holes, gravel backfill, and drain pipes keep water from building up and pushing the wall over. After the wall is up, we backfill carefully and compact the soil to provide support without overloading the structure.
